WhatsApp is one of the leading messaging platforms, owned by Meta. The app has amassed quite a following over the years and has been constantly adding interesting features which has led to high user retention rate.

‘Stealth Mode’ Coming Soon

Recently, the messaging service has been attempting to close the gap with rival Telegram, acquiring important additions like the file sharing ability up to 2GB in size, add up to 512 individuals in a group, and Communities in just the past three months.

Last month, some new privacy restrictions were announced, allowing users to conceal their profile images and last seen from certain contacts. That’s a lot of new features, but the Meta-owned app isn’t done yet. With another new feature, it plans to provide even more comprehensive privacy restrictions.

According to sources, the business is working on including a new feature in a future version of WhatsApp that would enable users to conceal their online status. For the time being, the update is only available on iOS, but we anticipate it to be available on Android shortly.

The Last Seen menu under Privacy settings will catch a new item at the bottom presenting two ways others can see you online — the original option where your online status is always visible to all, or you can set it to follow your Last Seen setting — effectively limiting it to contacts, select contacts, or letting no one see it at all.

We’ve been watching WhatsApp’s Last Seen status in development since November of last year. Hiding online status will certainly be an appealing option for individuals who currently keep their last seen status hidden, allowing them to fully go into stealth mode on the site, free from prying family members.

While this is a nice move, we wish users could distinguish between those who can view their online status and those who can see their Last Seen status.
