TSMC will manufacture Apple’s 3nm M3 and A17 Processor in this year

Samsung was the first tech company to produce 3nm circuits which outperformed TSMC by a few months. However, it seems Apple is not fully convinced and has decided to go in a different direction. According to reports, Apple has chosen TSMC over Samsung to produce its upcoming M3 and A17 Bionic CPUs.

Apple to Use TSMC Chips: Where Does that leave Samsung?

Apple’s upcoming M3 and A17 Bionic CPUs will purportedly be manufactured using TSMC’s N3E (3nm) production process. This will be the company’s first departure from the 5nm family. Apple may save its 3nm CPUs for the most powerful iPhone versions due out next year, while utilizing the A16 Bionic for less expensive models.

Apple’s latest M1 and M2 processors were never manufactured by Samsung, but the business did make the M1 conceivable, and industry rumors indicate that the same is true for the M2. The chips enabled users to smoothly run tricky functions such as Android phone transfers and more. Although TSMC produces Apple’s newest CPUs, the latter business also obtains components from other companies, like Samsung. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, in particular, provided FC-BGA substrates for the M1 and M2 chips. FC-BGAs are necessary for the production of high-circuit-connection-density CPUs and GPUs.

According to prior estimates, Samsung invested 1.3 trillion won in Vietnam to establish FC-BGA plants. Keeping this in mind, it’s probable that Samsung will continue to be engaged in the production of Apple’s future chipsets, at least to the extent of providing Apple and TSMC with certain components.

However, according to reports, Apple would only employ TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing lines, implying that Samsung will play a significantly lower part in Apple’s battle strategy than its largest chipset rival.
