Apple is working on a new “Mac Studio” desktop machine as a higher-end alternative to the existing Mac mini, according to 9to5Mac. Now, according to a fresh rumor, we’ll get our first glimpse at the Mac Studio’s alleged design, as well as Apple’s more cheap alternative to the Pro Display XDR.

Leak Showcases Mac Studio’s Design

According to a YouTube leaker, Apple will reveal the redesigned Mac Studio and a lower-cost external display during tomorrow’s “Peek Performance” event. This follows reports from 9to5Mac last week on the Mac Studio’s development, as well as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo over the weekend on the display.

The Mac Studio design leaked is said to look like two current Mac mini models layered on top of one other. The machine is silver in color and has rounded edges. It’s said to be around the same size as the current Mac mini M1, but it’s four inches higher.

Meanwhile, the new display is designed to look like the Pro Display XDR and the current 24-inch iMac. The distinction is that it’s bigger than the 24-inch iMac but smaller than the 32-inch Pro Display XDR, with a diagonal measurement of 27 inches. It also lacks the lattice design on the rear of the Pro Display XDR, as well as the Pro Stand.

Last week, 9to5Mac was the first to report about the Mac Studio. The machine is being tested in two separate configurations, according to our sources: one with an M1 Max processor and the other with a new chip that is even more powerful than the M1 Max. The new Mac Studio is codenamed “J375” internally, according to our sources. In both cases, it should run tools such as photo finder seamlessly.

We’d approach this information with caution once more. Regardless, these renderings are fascinating to look at as we try to figure out where the Mac Studio will go into Apple’s range. Apple’s “Peek Performance” event, which starts at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET tomorrow, might reveal further information.
