The June 2022 Update from Samsung Is Currently Available for These Galaxy Devices
Since the beginning of the year 2022, Samsung has provided very timely software upgrades for its Galaxy line of mobile devices. This blog provides a summary of all the devices that are presently receiving updates.
What’s new with the Samsung Security Update for June 2022?
Once again, Samsung is the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to offer Galaxy users with the most recent security patch, with the distribution beginning as early as May 30. It is important to note that the security patch that was released in May 2022 was able to fix the well-known “Dirty Pipe” attack for a lot of different devices.
This vulnerability mostly impacted Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones, and susceptible devices could be accessed remotely and given complete control if they were affected. This means illegal data sharing could have been carried out as well. If a device was vulnerable, it was more likely to be affected by this issue. Due to the fact that this vulnerability directly affected devices that came with Android 12 and with a kernel version of 5.8 or above, this was restricted to just the Galaxy S22 series of phones.
The resolution of 65 device-related vulnerabilities was included in Samsung’s own release notes for the June update. Of these, 5 were classified as “critical,” 14 were classified as “high,” and 2 were classified as “moderate.” Additionally, this update incorporates over 48 software-related updates that were made available with Google’s own June OTA.
The problems that have been fixed vary from data access to SIM cards to direct on-device camera access, both of which allowed remote attackers to take control of users’ Galaxy devices. A good number of additional problems, including those with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection, have also been fixed.
It is also important to note that the One UI 4.1 upgrade for Samsung Galaxy handsets is still in the process of being sent out. This mid-cycle edition of Android 12 contains a variety of functions and features that were first introduced as Galaxy S22-only upgrades.
These functions and features include: As the deployment has not yet been finished, it is possible that in addition to One UI 4.1, certain Samsung Galaxy phones may also get the security update that was released in June 2022.
