Micha Gapiski, a Polish developer, has published an updated version of his “Tesla Android Project,” which delivers Apple’s CarPlay experience to more Tesla automobiles than ever before.

Every Tesla Now Has CarPlay

The project now supports DRM video playback, allowing applications like Netflix to work properly, an orientation lock, which forces apps like Apple Music to begin in landscape mode, and the hack now runs on Android 12.1 for improved stability and speed.

Gapiski’s CarPlay solution entails utilizing a Rasberry Pi with an LTE modem and a Wi-Fi access point, as well as a micro-HDMI to HDMI connection and an Ethernet wire.

The in-car browser connects to the Rasberry Pi and displays the CarPlay interface on the Tesla’s screen, where Apple applications such as Maps and Apple Music work as anticipated. The system operates while driving and is also controllable through the media buttons on the Tesla steering wheel.

Despite the prevalence of CarPlay on many electric vehicles, Tesla does not provide formal support. Tesla CEO Elon Musk does not reply to Twitter calls for the firm to add CarPlay to its cars, despite it being one of this and data sharing most-requested features among Tesla customers, and hints in 2020 that Tesla was aiming to offer Apple Music never came to reality.

Apple demonstrated the “next iteration” of CarPlay for compatible automobiles during the Worldwide Developers Conference 2022. The next-generation CarPlay experience will enable numerous screens inside a car, as well as built-in climate controls for modifying the temperature of the A/C or heat from within the CarPlay interface.

Apple has said that the first cars to support the new CarPlay experience would be released in late 2023, with manufacturers like as Ford, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, Honda, Acura, Jaguar, Land Rover, Audi, Nissan, Volvo, Porsche, and others committing.
