Surprisingly, Samsung has a greater variety of Android features than Google
Considering how Google is the company that rolls out Android updates, it should be at the top of its game when it comes to Android features however according to recent reports, Samsung has beat Google and has more Android to offer than the latter.
Samsung has a lot to offer
Samsung has recently been on a drive to improve the software experience on its smartphones. With software improvements, the corporation has been hammering it recently. The pace with which the One UI 4.0 rollout has been completed has been outstanding.
The South-Korean tech giant said a little over a year ago that it will deliver three significant Android OS updates for a variety of devices. It would also come with four years’ worth of security updates. Samsung had made a significant commitment. Customers could now keep their smartphones for an extra year, knowing that they’d get all of the benefits that come with a significant Android OS update.
The majority of Android smartphone manufacturers only offer OS updates for two years. As a result, Samsung was already in a class by itself. Google’s Pixel devices come with a three-year warranty. While the Galaxy devices don’t directly compete with Google’s smartphones on the market, they were finally on an equal footing with them.
We had no idea that Samsung had another surprise in store for us. Select flagship and Galaxy A mid-range handsets will now receive four years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security fixes, according to Samsung. Additionally, this is true not only for the Galaxy S22 series but for all future flagships as well. This pledge has been made by Samsung for the Galaxy S21 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. This is incredible.
As of now, Samsung is providing greater software support for its Pixel 6 devices than Google. Smartphones by the tech giant such as the Galaxy Z Flip phones are able to accomplish complex tasks such as sharing SMS backups seamlessly. Only three years of Android OS updates are available for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. It appears that someone has been out-Androided.
Overall, it doesn’t present Google in a good light. A firm that leases Android from the corporation that owns Android is beating it on software support. On the other hand, you should definitely give Google some leeway. On Google’s balance sheets, the Pixel smartphones are probably just a rounding mistake. Samsung is a strong smartphone competitor, but Google isn’t in the same class.
Regardless, Samsung’s commitment should encourage Google to do better. That’s what its admirers are hoping for. So don’t be surprised if Google’s Pixel 7 series gets the same treatment when it launches later this year. Samsung’s supremacy can only inspire awe in the rest of the Android OEM market.
