As an Android smartphone user, you have the capability to record phone calls. However, with Google cracking down on third-party recording apps in the Google Play Store in the name of improved privacy, it can be a bit trickier to record calls on Android phones. But don’t worry, there are still ways to record phone calls on your Android device.

Recording a Call Using Google Voice

One way to record an incoming phone call on your Android device is by using Google Voice. Google Voice is a voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) that was created to make and receive phone calls from anywhere using the internet. It can also be used to record incoming calls. However, there are a couple of conditions to using this method. You must have a Google Voice account and all participants must be on a call before you start recording. Here’s how to record an incoming call using Google Voice:

  • Answer the incoming call you intend to record.
  • Press 4 to start recording.
  • Press 4 to stop recording.
  • Access recordings in the Google Voice voicemail tab.

Recording a Call Using an External Recorder

Another option for recording phone calls on your Android device is by using an external recorder. This may not be the most convenient option as it may require purchasing additional hardware. However, an external recorder is an option whether it’s a dictaphone or other device. Modern-day recorders often have wireless capabilities and can be paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth. The only steps required are typically pairing over Bluetooth and pressing a button to start and stop the recording. The recordings will be kept on the external device until you decide to transfer the audio files.

Recording a Call Using a Third-Party App

A potential workaround for recording phone calls on your Android device is by using a voice recorder app, some switch messages apps have this function as well. While Android call recording functionality is locked to Google’s Phone app and Accessibility services, you may be able to circumvent this by enabling a voice recorder and putting the phone call on speaker. This could be an app on your smartphone designed to capture voice and environmental noise, or if the call is made on speaker, an app could be used on a different mobile device. Keep in mind that these apps may not have the same level of call recording functionality as the built-in options, but they can still get the job done.

While Google has cracked down on third-party recording apps in the Google Play Store, it is still possible to record phone calls on your Android device.
