Some people may argue that printing is a thing of the past but there are just some things you can not completely digitize. By convincing numerous printer makers to integrate its AirPrint wireless printing function, Apple has succeeded in creating one of the simplest ways of printing from a smartphone. If you know how to get to it, Apple also provides a fairly simple option to make PDF documents instead of standard print copies.

How to Use AirPrint

To get started, you’ll need a wireless or networked printer that supports Apple’s AirPrint driverless printing technology. If you don’t already have a printer, learn how to pick the best one. If you bought a wireless printer in the last five years, or even up to ten years in the case of HP, chances are it already supports AirPrint. Some printer makers may provide an app such as Android to iPhone transfer that allows you to print files from your smartphone or via its own cloud service, but they are typically not as simple or pleasant to use as AirPrint.

Next, ensure that your iPhone and printer are both on the same WiFi network. If your printer has an ethernet connector, you may connect it directly to your wireless network using an ethernet cable and still AirPrint from your iPhone. In workplace contexts, your IT staff may need to enable the capability to allow printing from your iPhone.

Follow these easy steps when the first setup is complete.

  • Open the file you want to print, whether it’s an email or an email attachment, a webpage in Safari, a file in the Files app, a picture, or anything else.
  • To access the share sheet, hit the Share button, then scroll down and tap the Print button. The Print button may be located elsewhere in certain programs.
  • If there isn’t already a default printer selected on the Print Options screen, do so.
  • You may now choose the number of copies, the number of pages to print, whether to print double-sided, and other printing choices.
  • Print, and you’re done!

Pushing up from the bottom of the screen or double pressing the home button to access the App Switcher will bring up the print queue / order status. If the print hasn’t been done yet, you may cancel it here as well.

Once you get the hang of it, it is fairly a simple process. You can easily get your printed documents by using AirPrint.
