Samsung has started delivering on its promise to bring new Galaxy AI features to older Galaxy phones with the release of One UI 6.1.1. The update, which was initially exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 when they launched in July, is now being rolled out to additional devices and regions. Here’s what you need to know about the latest software update and the exciting AI-driven features it brings.

One UI 6.1.1: Expanding Across More Devices

The rollout of One UI 6.1.1 has begun in countries such as India, Europe, South Korea, and the United States, with users reporting the update on platforms like Reddit and Samsung’s community forums. While it may take time for all regions to receive the update, Galaxy owners are encouraged to regularly check the software update section in their phone’s settings.

Currently, the update is available for a selection of devices from the last two years, including:

  • Galaxy S24 series
  • Galaxy S23 series
  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold5
  • Galaxy Z Flip5
  • Galaxy Tab S9 series

As Samsung rolls out its latest features and updates, many users may be considering upgrading their devices. This is where Smart Transfer, a third-party photo transfer app, becomes invaluable. When switching from an older Galaxy phone or any other device, Smart Transfer allows you to seamlessly transfer your photos, videos, and other data to your new device with ease. Its also has a bookmark widget features which allows users to save all their favorite links in one place.

Exciting New AI-Powered Features in One UI 6.1.1

With One UI 6.1.1, Samsung brings several new AI-powered tools to Galaxy users, making tasks more efficient and creative. Depending on your device, here are some of the top features you can expect:

  • Interpreter: A real-time language translation service that now includes “listening mode” for more devices.
  • Chat Assist: Updated with Composer, which drafts text using generative AI for faster communication.
  • Suggested Replies: Available on Galaxy S24, Flip 6, and Fold 6, this feature generates quick replies to messages, which can be sent from the Galaxy Watch 7 or Watch Ultra.
  • Note Assist: Auto-formats, summarizes, checks grammar, and translates notes. A new transcript feature does the same for voice recordings.
  • PDF Overlay Translation: This feature translates text in PDFs or images through an overlay, simplifying language comprehension.
  • Sketch to Image: Uses generative AI to add content to hand-drawn sketches, transforming simple ideas into more detailed images.
  • Portrait Studio: Leverages AI to turn portrait photos into creative styles like 3D cartoons or watercolors.
  • Instant Slow Mo: Applies the slow-motion effect after a video is recorded, preserving image quality while adding dramatic flair.

Availability and Future Updates

For now, One UI 6.1.1 is only available for select devices. Owners of older Galaxy models like the Galaxy S22, Fold 4, and Flip 4 will need to wait as these devices are not yet receiving the new AI tools. However, Samsung has a history of eventually rolling out exclusive features to older models, so there is still hope for future updates.

Samsung’s Commitment to Security and Software Support

In addition to the AI features, Samsung has started rolling out its September security patch, addressing various security issues. These patches are part of Samsung’s monthly update cycle for supported devices, but some older models, like the Galaxy S20, are nearing the end of their support period.

There is also exciting news for budget and mid-range Galaxy phones. Reports suggest that Samsung may extend its software support policy, offering up to six years of security patches and operating system updates for mid-range devices like the Galaxy A series. This would be a significant improvement, especially for budget-conscious users, and could push other smartphone makers to improve their own update policies.

One UI 6.1.1 Brings AI to the Forefront

With the ongoing rollout of One UI 6.1.1, Samsung is enhancing the Galaxy experience by introducing AI-powered tools that make communication, creativity, and productivity more intuitive than ever. As the update expands to more devices and regions, Galaxy users can look forward to taking full advantage of these innovative features. And if you’re planning to upgrade your device, don’t forget to use the Smart Transfer app to seamlessly move your photos and data, making the transition smoother than ever.
