Samsung Galaxy phone users have been complaining about poor battery life after updating to One UI 5.1. The Samsung Keyboard was found to be the culprit, and Samsung has since released an update to address the issue. However, the problem may still persist for some users. In this article, we’ll delve deeper into the battery drain issue and how to fix it.

The Battery Drain Issue Explained

After the One UI 5.1 update, Samsung Galaxy phone users noticed a significant spike in battery usage by the Samsung Keyboard. It was found that an “additional qualifying process (related to stickers and emojis)” was causing the keyboard to use more battery than usual. Some users reported a reduction in screen-on time of up to three hours.

Samsung’s Response

Samsung confirmed that the Samsung Keyboard was indeed causing the battery drain issue and released an update on March 2 to fix the problem. The update, which can be found in the Galaxy Store under the Updates section, is version 5.6.10.31. However, the update may not work for everyone, as some users are still experiencing battery drain even after updating all system apps.

How to Update Your Samsung Keyboard

If you haven’t already received the update, you can check for it in the Galaxy Store by going to Menu > Updates > Samsung Keyboard. If the update is available, click on Settings > About Samsung Keyboard > Update. If your phone already has the latest version, you won’t see the update button.

What if the Update Doesn’t Work?

If the update doesn’t fix the battery drain issue, you can try using another QWERTY keyboard, such as Gboard or SwiftKey. You can also use a third-party app like Core Manager App to manage your phone’s storage and remove duplicate files, which can also help improve battery life. Core Manager app even has a data sharing, junk cleaner and gallery manager feature.

Wrap-Up

The Samsung Keyboard was indeed causing battery drain on Samsung Galaxy phones after the One UI 5.1 update. Samsung has released an update to address the issue, but some users may still experience battery drain even after updating all system apps. If you’re one of them, try using a different keyboard or a third-party app like Core Manager App to manage your phone’s storage and improve battery life.
