Samsung’s One UI 5 is a feature packed update with plenty of exciting features, however there is one feature that we absolutely love. If you have ever given your phone to a repair shop, you have probably been paranoid about strangers going over your private pictures and info. With the latest update, Samsung has resolved the issue by releasing a Maintenance mode.

Maintenance Mode Overview

Maintenance mode in One UI 5 safeguards your privacy by keeping your phone’s data away from prying eyes. The mode is meant for usage while sending your phone in for repairs, since you will not need to format it in such cases. Instead, activate Maintenance mode and send the phone to the repair center without fear of the technician viewing your personal information.

The feature disables access to your phone’s accounts, images, files, and other data. Be sure to share your important files with an app such as send anywhere file transfer to another device till your phone is fixed. Once the feature is enabled, the technician can only use preloaded programs. They can also use the Galaxy Store to download and install new applications, alter system settings, sign in to their Google account, access the Play Store, and run diagnostic tools without any problems. When Maintenance mode is disabled, the data is erased and the device is returned to the condition it was in before the mode was activated.

Maintenance mode sets a second guest account on your Galaxy device for the repair specialist to test with. This also prevents them from accessing your personal data on the device. Multi-user functionality is lacking in One UI 5 due to maintenance mode, despite the option being accessible in the original versions.

How to Enable Maintenance Mode

To enable Maintenance mode:

  • Navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Scroll down to Battery and device care.
  • At the bottom of the list, choose Maintenance mode.
  • Tap Turn on to confirm your selection.
  • Before activating the mode, you are prompted to generate a system log. This gives the professionals more information to help them solve the issue. There is no personally identifying information in it.

When you reboot your phone, it will be in Maintenance mode, with all of your sensitive data hidden.
