Initial reports would seem to indicate that the fingerprint sensor on the Google Pixel 6a already has problems before the device has even been officially released.

Google has been getting ready for the release of its new low-cost phone, which will be available for purchase later on this week at various retailers. With everyone’s attention focused on the phone, quite a few early adopters were able to get their hands on it for the purpose of writing reviews. However, according to some reports, the newly released Google Pixel 6a may have problems with its fingerprint sensor not properly detecting fingers that have not been previously registered.

Fingerprint Sensor Issues

It’s well knowledge that no two people have the same set of fingerprints. However, users on Reddit are pointing to multiple cases showing the fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6a unlocking with unregistered fingerprints. These instances have been documented. Nevertheless, the smartphone can run smart switch programs easily.

Phandroid provides a link to a YouTube channel that goes into further detail on this finding. The fingerprint scanner is only programmed to recognize the thumb on the YouTuber’s right hand, but the phone may also be unlocked using the thumb on the YouTuber’s left hand. As he illustrates with another phone, this is not something that should be taking place at all.

It has been shown in a few videos that the Pixel 6a makes it possible for anybody to unlock the device, even if they are not enrolled in the user’s device. If the problem is widespread, then it poses a threat to people’s safety and has to be fixed as soon as possible rather than later. These reports have not been validated by Google as of yet, and there is a great deal of uncertainty over the gravity of the matter. Because of this potential security flaw, the Google Pixel 6a, which has the potential to be one of the greatest low-cost Android phones to be released this year, may not be as successful as it might be.
