OnePlus and Oppo’s ColorOS will integrate their smartphone operating systems
Almost a month after announcing that it would become an Oppo sub-brand, OnePlus has confirmed that its OxygenOS would be merged with its new parent company’s ColorOS. The two companies have decided to “better exploit [their] joint resources” by standardizing the software experience across their whole portfolio.
Further Details
OxygenOS, unlike ColorOS, is a stock Android, which should result in a significant shift in the OnePlus user experience. However, sources say that the user experience will remain the same and that the integration process will take place in the backend on the Operating System’s codebase.
According to recent reports, OnePlus smartphones released in China use Oppo’s ColorOS, and this is likely to continue with all-new OnePlus handsets. According to Engadget, those who are already using OxygenOS on their OnePlus smartphones will be updated to the latest version and will continue to receive regular updates with the new integration via OTA updates.
Moreover, when the merger was announced, the parent company, Oppo, claimed that OnePlus will continue to operate autonomously, as it has for many years. According to the statement this alliance, on the other hand, is a calculated move designed to pool resources and streamline operations to give the best possible user experience while considerably raising their combined market worth.
In other news
After the merger, OnePlus promises better and longer Android update support, which now rivals Samsung’s. In the future, the OnePlus 8 series and the company’s upcoming flagships will receive three major Android updates as well as four years of security patches. In the meantime, the first Nord and all subsequent Nord and Nord CE devices will receive two major Android updates and three years of security patches.
Additionally, the N10 and N100 phones in the Nord N series will receive one major Android update and three years of security patches. If you have a flagship that is older than the OnePlus 8, you can expect two major Android releases and three years of security patches.
Summing Up
OnePlus devices are known to be budget-friendly and have impressive features that make it easier to carry out tasks such as iPhone data sharing. The latest low-cost smartphone, the “OnePlus Nord N200 5G,” is now available in North America. The phone is a follow-up to the $180 Nord N100 from last year, and the N200 is still available for $240 thanks to OnePlus’ annual price bump. A smartphone with reasonable capabilities and a $240 price tag appears to be a good deal. A 6.49-inch 1080p display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5000 mAh battery with 18 W charging are all included in the phone. With four ARM Cortex A76 cores and four ARM Cortex A55 cores, the Snapdragon 480 is an eight-core, eight-nanometer SoC. Quite an impressive device.
The merger may bring a variety of budget-friendly devices with even more premium features. We’ll have to wait and see what the implications of this merger are.
