OneDrive’s latest update includes native M1 for Mac users
Last December, Microsoft published a public beta of the OneDrive sync application for macOS, which included native support for Apple’s Silicon platform. Three months later, the firm has finally released the upgrade to all Mac customers, allowing them to utilize OneDrive natively on the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max processors.
OneDrive Updated With M1 Compatibility
OneDrive sync for Apple Silicon is now accessible on “GA,” which is what Microsoft refers to as software that is available to everyone, according to a Microsoft employee. OneDrive for macOS version 22.022 adds native support for the Apple Silicon platform. By going to OneDrive settings, users may see if they have the most recent version of the software loaded.
Apps such as file sharing that have been modified to operate natively on Apple Silicon processors may take full use of the ARM architecture, which provides increased performance and efficiency. This implies that the program will consume less power, resulting in longer battery life for MacBook users.
Microsoft isn’t the only firm that has been sluggish to adapt its cloud platform so that it can operate natively on M1. Dropbox made a test version of its macOS software with Apple Silicon compatibility accessible to the public earlier this year, but it has yet to be made public. In October 2021, Google Drive was upgraded to include M1 functionality.
Microsoft has also published a new beta version of OneDrive for macOS, which allows users to migrate their Desktop and Documents folders to the company’s cloud platform. The official OneDrive blog has further information.
