Meta’s Messenger for kids now has a dark theme and new speech effects
Messenger Kids, the kid-friendly version of Meta’s Messenger service, formerly Facebook Messenger, is getting a dark mode and new voice message audio effects, according to the site. The app is getting brand new updates to give it a fresh look.
Brand New Features
Dark mode first appeared in the main Messenger app in January of this year, and it’s now making its way to the version of the app aimed at kids aged six to twelve. This book is ideal for any young person preparing for a challenging adolescent goth era. It will first be available on the iOS version of the app, with Android to follow.
For now, voice effects will be available in the coming weeks, and, like the service’s dark mode, will be first available for iOS. They appear to be a fun addition to the service since they combine with the service’s current voice messaging function to enable a youngster to sound like a robot, ghost, gorilla, mouse, or as if they’re talking into a seashell. After recording a voice message, the five choices display, allowing you to make changes before sending it.
Messenger Kids is also changing its games feature to allow youngsters to launch two-player built-in games from within a conversation using the orange controller symbol, in addition to these two new capabilities. Previously, these were hidden under a separate Explore tab. This modification will initially be implemented on iOS, with Android following suit.
Wrapping Up
Messenger Kids has mostly slipped under the spotlight in recent years, despite its fair share of scandal due to its parent company’s data-sharing activities. Especially when contrasted to Instagram, which had to publicly remove itself earlier this year from claims that it was working on a version of Instagram for youngsters under the age of 13. Messenger Kids, on the other hand, has mostly avoided comparable levels of criticism because of inoffensive features like audio effects and a carefully parental-controlled design.
