Matter Launching for Android and Google Home Ecosystem
Matter is an open smart home technology standard that allows your device to communicate with any Matter-certified ecosystem via a single protocol. The much-awaited capability was finally released in November 2022. Most tech companies have already integrated Matter into their devices, and Google has now finally rolled out Matter for Android smartphones and Google Home.
Matter on Android & Google Home
Google began upgrading millions of Android smartphones and many of its smart home appliances with Matter in recent weeks. The corporation claims that the deployment is complete today.
One of the most exciting features is the support for Fast Pair. This enables data sharing with a new smart home gadget that supports Matter with a single button press, similar to how you can instantly connect the latest and most fantastic headphones and other accessories.
The Google Home app for Android also adds support for the standard required for a full hub to aggregate all matter-supporting devices. Furthermore, the Nest Wi-Fi Pro, Nest Hub Max, and Nest Hub (2nd generation) may function as Thread border routers, providing full Matter compatibility for your smart home devices. To clarify, Matter uses various networking technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread. The latter is a low-energy network that runs concurrently with your Wi-Fi network and is ideal for low-power devices such as smart locks.
There are a few glaring exclusions from Google’s range, but the firm states that additional Nest gadgets will be updated next year, in 2023. The earlier Nest Wi-Fi and the 2020 Nest Thermostat will also support the standard.
Google also plans to improve Matter’s Multi Admin functionality in 2023 and is collaborating with Samsung SmartThings on a simple way to connect smart home devices to both platforms without requiring a lengthy setup procedure. Overall, we are pleased with the update and look forward to a more streamlined smart home experience.
