MacBook Pro Refresh: Update on Shipping and Availability
According to a recent supply chain report, the release of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, equipped with Apple’s latest M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, may have been delayed once again.
Expectations for New MacBook Pros
Apple had previously announced their redesigned MacBook Pro lineup in late 2021, with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which worked decent enough and did not create overheating issues with heavy processing programs such as we transfer. After the announcement of the M2 chip in June 2022, there were rumors that the MacBook Pro models would be updated with their respective M2 chips in the fall. However, the release date was later pushed back to early 2023.
New Delay?
According to recent sources, the debut of these devices may have been pushed back even more. The article did not provide a new release date, but it did state that the new MacBook Pro improvements are expected to be “delayed once again.”
Apple was previously scheduled to introduce the new MacBook Pros in March, but if this source is correct, we may have to wait until WWDC in June at the very least. Apple will also release their first M3 Macs at that time.
Impact on MacBook Shipments
As part of the same report, the source also notes that MacBook shipments are expected to take a significant hit this quarter. Supply chain sources predict a 40% to 50% drop in MacBook shipments for Q1 compared to Q4 2022. While a decline in shipments is to be expected, given that Q4 2022 was the holiday quarter, Apple usually sees a drop of between 10% and 20%.
