According to expert Jeff Pu, at least one iPhone 15 model will be released in 2023 with a periscope camera technology that would allow for enhanced optical zoom.

Light entering the iPhone’s telephoto lens on the rear would be reflected by an angled mirror onto the camera’s image sensor via a periscope system. Because the light travels in a different path, Apple might place a longer telephoto lens inside the iPhone, allowing users to zoom in deeper without blurriness.

Since early 2020, rumors of an iPhone with a periscope lens have been circulating, with respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo being the first to raise the potential. Kuo had stated that a periscope lens will be included in the iPhone 14 Pro, but it now appears that we will have to wait until the iPhone 15 Pro next year.

On The Android Side

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei’s P40 Pro+ are two Android smartphones that already have periscope lenses. Both of those gadgets provide up to 10x optical zoom, and the iPhone 15 Pro might follow suit with the inclusion of a periscope lens. In the meanwhile, optical zoom on iPhone 13 Pro devices is restricted to 3x.

It seems Apple has a lot of catching up to do. It is worth mentioning that Samsung’s foldables have been a big hit among consumers due to the smartphone’s classy design and premium features which allow users to carry out complex tasks such as removing duplicate photos in mere seconds. Whereas, we have yet to see Apple’s take on foldable devices.
