After improving battery life on the iPhone 13 series, Apple appears to be ready to take the next step with the iPhone 14, dumping Samsung in favor of smaller and better TSMC 5G processors.

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, chipmaker TSMC has taken over Samsung’s sophisticated production process and will be the exclusive supplier of Apple’s 5G processors for the next iPhone 14 range. Additionally, these 5G chips, according to market experts, will be built on TSMC’s 6nm architecture, which was initially disclosed at the TSMC Technology Forum in 2021.

Further Details

If you recall, there was speculation that the iPhone 13 would have Wi-Fi 6E compatibility; since that didn’t materialize, it would make sense if this new 5G processor had support for the iPhone 14’s newest bands.

Aside from improved performance over 5G and Wi-Fi, another compelling argument to include this new technology in the iPhone 14 is the additional battery life it provides. Not only that, but 5G modems are still power-hungry, which is why Apple advises customers against using 5G all of the time. Basically, the new phones will be able to perform tasks such as sharing SMS backups at astounding speeds.

Perhaps this will change with the release of the iPhone. Or Apple will tout the same battery life with 5G always on or claim that it was able to increase battery life even more with the iPhone 14 — and let’s face it, we won’t complain if the future Apple flagship phones have longer battery life.
