iPhone 14 Displays: What to Anticipate From The Next iPhone
Rumors about the iPhone 14 have drawn an image of bright, vibrant displays comparable to the iPhone 13. However, digging further into the speculations reveals specific predicted changes to the iPhone 14 screens, which might translate into considerable improvements for Apple’s devices. And the pressure is on Apple since the phone maker’s key competitors, notably Samsung, have concentrated on display updates for their own devices, hoping to dethrone Apple’s products as the best phone overall.
Here’s everything we know so far regarding the iPhone 14 screens.
iPhone 14 Display Updates
With one major exception, the various iPhone 14 versions’ displays are likely to remain mostly unchanged.
The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max should have the exact screen sizes as the iPhone 13. That implies the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will have 6.1-inch displays, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max will retain the 6.7-inch display seen on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
However, it may not be the only 6.7-inch phone in Apple’s inventory anymore. According to rumors, Apple will introduce an iPhone 14, Max, to its portfolio this year — a cheaper 6.7-inch phone that will miss some of the premium features seen in Apple’s Pro series. Instead, the goal is to provide iPhone enthusiasts with a more affordable way to obtain one of the most fantastic large phones.
That would end Apple’s tiny iPhone model, which debuted with the iPhone 12 releases in 2020 but never caught on, even with the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini. That means lovers of smaller displays will have to settle for the iPhone SE (2022) or hope that Apple maintains an earlier tiny model in its range at a lower price.
Another change to the iPhone 14 Pro model screens is that they are expected to eliminate the notch that has been associated with the iPhone since its introduction in 2017. Instead, the front camera and Face ID sensors seem to be housed in two cutouts on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Compared to current Pro versions, this will free up a bit more screen area on both phones.
As previously stated, the iPhone 13 Pro versions now include a dynamic refresh rate ranging between 10Hz and 120Hz. However, the basic iPhone 13 continues to run at the more traditional 60Hz pace.
Similar to how Google handles its Pixel flagships, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max might feature 90Hz refresh rates. That would undoubtedly be an improvement over the iPhone 13’s set 60Hz refresh rate hence smoother T Mobile content transfers and other multi-tasking functions.
The problem is that other leakers have debunked this notion. Instead, they advise the iPhone 14 to keep the 60Hz displays present on current basic model iPhones. However, according to a previous source within Apple’s supply chain, at least one iPhone 14 model employs an LTPS display with a 60Hz refresh rate, which we presume is the iPhone 14.
A 90Hz refresh rate would make scrolling on the iPhone 14 look much smoother than on previous versions, so it’s certainly a feature we’d want to see. However, until additional rumors back up this change in refresh rates, we must presume that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will provide the same 60Hz rates as Apple’s less expensive flagships.
Wrapping Up
Don’t anticipate a considerable screen size or refresh rate change for Apple’s imminent iPhone 14 release. However, enough significant improvements seem to be in the works for us to believe that screens will remain an essential feature on Apple’s upcoming phones. And as we come closer to the iPhone 14 release date, special surprises may emerge.
