Introducing Nothing OS 1.5.2: Latest Stable Build of Android 13
Nothing, the consumer technology brand co-founded by Carl Pei, has recently rolled out the first stable build of its latest operating system, the Nothing OS 1.5 branch, for its flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest update, which promises to bring a fresh look, improved functionality, and better privacy protection.
New Features and Improvements
The Nothing OS 1.5.2 is packed with several new features, improvements, and bug fixes. Let’s take a closer look at some of the key changes included in this stable release.
Customization
The new Glyph soundpack offers more ringtone and notification sounds. The wallpaper selector now provides more color schemes, and there’s a new collection of minimalist wallpapers. Moreover, the icons can now match the background color to give a more consistent look to the home screen. The lock screen now allows shortcut customizations, enabling users to create shortcuts for the camera, torch, device controls, and wallet.
Improved Experience
The new network Quick Settings panel makes it easier to switch data usage when using dual SIM. Additionally, the Quick Settings panel displays the current network and mobile data usage. The Camera app now includes a scanner that appears as a shortcut in the Quick Settings. Users can now select language preferences for different apps.
Visual Improvements
The Media Control has a new look that puts album artwork on full display with a wider set of music controls. The volume settings panel allows granular volume control without unlocking the device. Game Mode now has fewer distractions with its improved light notifications. There are smoother animations when transitioning the display between on and off, and the Camera app has a more refined interface.
Privacy & Safety
The latest update includes several privacy and safety features, such as an alert when an app such as phone transfer accesses the clipboard, personal safety app, better privacy protection for Photo Picker, nearby Wi-Fi devices permission, and select media permission.
System Performance
The fingerprint unlock accuracy has improved by up to 12%, while app startup speed has increased by up to 71%. The standby power consumption has improved by up to 50%, and there is a new self-repair feature that periodically deletes unused system dumps and cache, resulting in increased system stability.
Availability
Although the latest stable build of Nothing OS 1.5.2 is now available, it might be limited to existing Open Beta participants initially. We expect the stable Android 13 OTA to roll out to all users over the coming week, unless any showstopper bugs are spotted.
