Instagram Updated iOS To Solve Repeating Stories Bug
Some users on iOS have reported that Instagram Tales have been acting strangely, forcing them to rewatch all of a certain user’s stories before they are allowed to see new ones. This issue only affects iOS users. Since Monday, the bug has been causing problems for several users, and its instances have also been reported on Reddit.
Repeated Stories Bug on iOS
On Wednesday morning, Instagram made an update on the App Store that, at first glance, seemed to have rectified the situation. However, if you are experiencing problems, be sure to check for updates and determine whether or not your application is running the most recent version, which is 239.1. The notes for the update only state, “The most recent version includes bug fixes and performance enhancements.”
The firm is “aware that some individuals are experiencing problems accessing Instagram Stories,” a representative for Meta named Christine Pai said in an email to The Verge on behalf of the company. Pai regretted the inconvenience and said that Instagram is “trying to bring everything back to normal as fast as possible.”
The fundamental problem seems to be that Instagram does not remember where you last left off while browsing other people’s stories. For instance, if a user sees that one of their followers has posted five tales and swipes away after seeing four of them, the next time they press on their symbol, they should be presented with the option to view their fifth story instead of the previous four. Instead, the photo-sharing platform is forcing users to scroll through the same four stories they’ve viewed each time they want to see the story. Unfortunately, this is the current behavior of Instagram. The issue also manifests itself every time a new story is added to their feed by another user.
It is currently unclear how many people have been impacted by this issue. There are a lot of individuals on Twitter complaining that they have to replay stories, but Instagram isn’t trending as I’d expect it to if a big feature were broken for everyone. I’d expect it to trend if people had trouble accessing the function.
