Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger established Instagram, a picture and video-sharing social networking site. Facebook Inc. bought the service for $1 billion in cash and equity in April 2012. Users may post photos and videos that can be modified with filters and categorized using hashtags and geotagging. Posts can be shared with the general public or with followers who have been pre-approved. Users may explore trending material and browse other users’ content by tags and places. Individuals may add their material to a personal feed by liking photographs and following other users.

Over the years, the app has managed to become a must-have social media application. It has stayed at the top by constantly adding features to the platform. However, too much of anything can become detrimental hence Instagram has released a new feature called, ‘Take a Break’ to help users manage their time on the app.

Take a Break

On Friday, the popular photo-sharing platform, which is owned by Meta, launched the ‘Take a Break’ function in all countries, including India, to help young people better control their Instagram experience.

A feature named ‘Take a Break’ will appear for people who have been scrolling for a certain amount of time. “The wellbeing of young people is vital to us,” Natasha Jog, Public Policy Manager, Instagram, Facebook India, said in a statement. “We’re focused on ensuring that time spent on Instagram is deliberate and people feel good about it.” “In this context, we’ve developed ‘Take a Break,’ which will assist young people, parents, and guardians in having a better Instagram experience,” she added.

Users will be urged to take a break from Instagram, with the idea that they set reminders for future breaks, according to sources. Expert-approved suggestions on how to reflect and reset will also be offered to them. Messages will be sent to young people suggesting that they turn on these reminders to ensure that they are aware of the function.

Wrapping Up

Instagram’s current time management tools, such as Daily Limit, which tells users when they have spent the maximum amount of time on Instagram for the day and allows users to quiet Instagram notifications, are complemented by the ‘Take a Break’ reminders.

‘Take a Break’ was first published in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, but it is now available everywhere. The ‘Take a Break’ feature will be available immediately on iOS, with Android following in a few weeks.
