Samsung has been dominating the foldable devices market with its innovative Galaxy Z Flip and Fold lineup. The most recent additions in the Z Flip and Fold series were a tremendous hit, surpassing expectations and breaking sales records.

Samsung has revealed fresh information regarding how the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are tested for durability. It seems at an odd time to reveal such information since the devices were released in August however the South Korean tech giant may be trying to disperse the recent concerns that the Galaxy Z Flip screens crack.

Durability Tests

Samsung demonstrates four different tests in a video on its website. One puts the phones in an environmental laboratory, where Samsung tests them in various conditions to ensure that they continue to function. Another test involves submerging the phones underwater. On the Z Fold 3, one uses a robot arm to test the performance of the S Pen. In a fourth test, both phones are folded over and over again.

The tech juggernaut’s tests, which were released on Monday, do not address why Z Flip 3 screens appear to be cracking. There has been an increasing number of complaints of cracks in the middle of the screen, near the phone’s hinge.

One of the most pressing concerns regarding Samsung’s foldables has always been their durability, especially after the original Fold’s release was delayed due to screen failures in review units. The reported cracking issues indicate that Samsung may still have some issues to address to ensure that its foldable phones do not shatter in the long run.

Summing Up

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Fold series have been quite popular among consumers. They are the idea foldable devices and can carry out tasks such as messages backup efficiently. Nevertheless, the cracked screens are a serious issue that should be tackled as soon as possible since if such expensive phones are not durable that there is no point in getting them despite their foldable appeal.
