With Facebook profile locking, you can guarantee that individuals, not your friends, may only see a restricted portion of your profile content.

Are you interested in increasing the privacy of your Facebook account by locking your profile? Individuals who are not already on your Facebook friends list will only be able to see a restricted view of your profile if you have closed it. For example, if you have a closed profile, only those on your friends’ list will be able to see the images and posts on the timeline and your profile picture and cover photo sharing, articles, and new postings. Additionally, your ‘Public’ postings will no longer be available to the general public and will only be viewable to your friends.

Locking your Facebook profile may be done from either the mobile app or your browser; however, it should be noted that the desktop version of Facebook does not provide this feature, although there is a workaround available. Furthermore, this function is only available in the Android application. Continue reading to learn how to make your Facebook profile inaccessible.

Facebook Profile Lock through the Mobile App

To lock your Facebook profile using the Android mobile app, follow these steps:

  1. First, open the Facebook app and choose your profile from the drop-down menu.
  2. Next, select ‘Add to Story’ from the drop-down menu by tapping the three-dot menu symbol.
  3. Next, you should notice a Lock Profile option, which you should choose.
  4. The next page will provide you with an overview of how it works and an option to Lock Your Profile at the bottom, which you should select.
  5. You should get a pop-up message that states ‘You Locked Your Profile,’ and you should click on OK.

Facebook Desktop Profile Lock

The fact that there is no direct method to lock your app from the browser does not exclude you from using a workaround if you do not have access to the mobile application:

  1. Open up your Facebook profile by going to https://www.facebook.com/ and clicking on the profile button.
  2. Next, replace the letter ‘www’ with’ m’ in the URL, resulting in the URL reading’m.facebook.com/yourprofilename’ instead of ‘www.facebook.com.'
  3. On your desktop browser, you should see a three-dot menu next to the Edit Profile option, which indicates that you see a mobile version of Facebook.
  4. You should find the Lock Profile option in the three-dot menu; choose it from there.
  5. Like the Android version, the following page will demonstrate how locking works, with an option to Lock Your Profile at the bottom of the page. To use it, press the button.
  6. Your profile has now been locked for security reasons.

The desktop solution is available to iOS users, who may also borrow an Android handset and follow the procedures mentioned above.

There are no differences in the procedures to unlock your Facebook profile on the mobile app and the desktop version. However, you will now see an Unlock Profile option instead of the Lock Profile option; touch on it and select Unlock on the next page to activate it. In addition, an explanation of how unlocking your profile works, as well as an option to Unlock Your Profile, will appear at the bottom of the page. Click on it, and your profile will be unlocked.
