Hands-On with iPhone 14 Models, Featuring New Sizes and Camera Design Updates
Case manufacturers often construct dummy models based on leaked schematics and specs prior to the release of new iPhone models. The design of the iPhone 14 series has been known for some time, and this week, we received a batch of dummy devices to witness the design upgrades for ourselves.
The Design and Specifications of the iPhone 14
The iPhone 14 models will resemble the iPhone 13 variants in terms of design, with one noteworthy exception: there will be no iPhone 14 small. Instead, Apple will produce two 6.1-inch iPhones (the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro) as well as two 6.7-inch iPhones (the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max)
The notch on the Pro versions will be replaced by hole and pill-shaped cutouts for the camera and Face ID technology. The hole and pill design is similar to a notch, but it frees up some space and makes the front cameras less noticeable. The notch will remain on standard iPhone 14 devices.
We know there are some tiny differences in the device sizes, but comparing a fake unit to the iPhone 13 range in person is challenging. There are minor adjustments to the screen sizes of the iPhone 14 Pro versions, but you won’t notice them in normal usage.
The camera bumps on the Pro models will be bigger and broader to accommodate Apple’s new 48-megapixel camera. There will be little design modifications to standard iPhone 14 models. The details on the internal hardware are sparse but if the reports till now are to be believed then we can expect minimal upgrades regards iOS transfers and other heavy processing functions.
Weight, material, and color are unknowns based on dummy models, but reports say the iPhone 14 models will have the same construction as previous-generation models, with the exception of a new featured purple color for both the basic and Pro variants.
Can We Expect Significant Changes?
Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models will be more distinct than ever before, with the Pro versions set to employ an A16 processor while the ordinary models will continue to use an A15 chip. The iPhone 14 Pro variants will also include more powerful camera systems, ProMotion screens, and maybe an always-on display capability.
