Google Maps Rolls Out the Much-Awaited Dark Mode
Google Map is finally getting the dark mode treatment. As of now, the feature is only rolling on Android devices. Google had been testing the dark mode option for quite some time since September hence its release has been long overdue.
Google maps already had a night color option but this feature takes the entire thing to the next level. Users can enable dark mode by going into the app’s settings menu, they will find the feature under “theme”. The biggest advantage of this feature is that it saves battery life and the grayscale interface decreases the strain on the eyes. This is not the only feature that the company has rolled out.
There is a batch of new features including a few updates to Android Auto. These updates include custom wallpapers and games on Android Auto. You can play Trivia Crack, Jeopardy! Song Quiz, and Google’s own Are You Feeling Lucky? These games can be accessed by saying, “Hey Google, play a game.”
Further updates on Android Auto include a split-screen feature that will put Maps side by side with media controls, much like what Apple started doing in CarPlay in iOS 13 in 2019 however this will only work win cars with wider monitors. Google also plans on launching shortcuts to Android Auto.
The Android Auto features will be available in the coming weeks whereas the Google Maps dark mode feature will be released quite soon. Additionally, while the biggest tech feud between Apple and Facebook over data sharing is happening, Google has been just an observer for now. However, if rumors are to be believed Google is working on its version of Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature.
