Apple has issued a software update to address the battery drain concerns that some Mac users have been experiencing after switching to macOS 12.2. The latest version, 12.2.1, includes improvements for “an issue for Intel-based Mac computers that may cause the battery to deplete during sleep when connected to Bluetooth devices,” according to the release notes.

MacBook Battery Drain Issue Resolved

Prior to Thursday’s improvements, several customers complained that their MacBook batteries would degrade while they were sleeping, sometimes reaching 0% charge overnight. While there was evidence that Bluetooth was to blame, several customers stated that turning off Bluetooth before shutting down their machines had no effect, leaving the problem unsolved. Apple has now confirmed that it is working to resolve a Bluetooth problem — ideally, this will benefit everyone.

On Thursday, Apple delivered upgrades for iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you should apply the 15.3.1 update as soon as possible to access features that would enable your devices to smoothly run apps such as duplicate contacts remover, according to Apple’s security website, since it addresses a security hole that might have been actively exploited. The update also fixes a fault with a braille-related accessibility function, according to AppleTrack. Apple hasn’t included any security changes for watchOS 8.4.2, so it looks to be a minor upgrade.

Go to System Preferences > Software Update to update your Mac. After refreshing the page, you should see the 12.2.1 update, which you can install by selecting the “Update Now” option.
