The notion of probable production delays hurting the distribution of Apple’s mixed reality headset has been circulating for a while, and now we have a suggestion as to why: The new device is believed to use Wi-Fi 6E to provide better bandwidth and low latency connectivity, according to an investor letter from noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Further Details

Kuo says in a note to investors sent out on Monday that the high-resolution information provided by mixed-reality headsets requires a cable connection to be seamlessly transferred one of the new tech’s clunkiest elements. However, because Wi-Fi 6E provides better bandwidth and lower latency connection which makes complex tasks such as iPhone transfer extremely swift. Apple and other rival brands may be able to do away with the actual cord and enjoy an untethered VR and AR experience. “To optimize the wireless experience, head-mounted displays (HMDs) must use the most recent Wi-Fi protocol.”

According to credible sources new HMDs from Meta, Apple, and Sony would all support Wi-Fi 6/6E in 2022. “In 2022, we expect Meta, Apple, and Sony to be the most influential brands in the metaverse device market, with Meta, Apple, and Sony each releasing new HMDs in 2H22, 4Q22, and 2Q22.”

While there are some changes between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E also known as 802.11ax the most recent Wi-Fi standards, both enable higher speeds and a more optimized mobile experience. With the Oculus Quest 2, Meta — the business is formerly known as Facebook — has a Wi-Fi 6-capable gadget on the market that can broadcast at 120Hz.

Summing Up

Apple’s next headset has experienced production problems, due to a “complex design” that Kuo has previously hinted to. While the particular mechanics of the device’s operation are still unknown, it’s becoming increasingly likely that the head-mounted display will be able to outsource its computation to an iPhone wirelessly. While the exact design of the device is still unknown, the Information earlier reported that the headsets will feature two 8K monitors and more than a dozen cameras for hand-tracking, and would cost a whopping $3,000.
