Apple will now remind users about AirTag guidelines

Since Apple released its AirTags last year, tracking tags have exploded in popularity. The device’s premise is laughably simple: attach it to anything you don’t want to lose, and you should never lose it again thanks to a mix of local monitoring and crowdsourcing with the assistance of neighboring iPhones on Apple’s “Find My” network. Apple, on the other hand, is well aware that AirTags may be used for illicit purposes and is taking efforts to prevent it — or at the absolute least, respectfully remind customers not to do so.

Further Details

According to MacRumors, Apple has included a setup warning to AirTags as part of its anti-stalking improvements in the iOS 15.4 beta, reminding you that you may find your AirTag at any moment, but that using it to “track someone without their agreement is a felony in many areas across the world.” Any illegal data sharing is punishable by law hence the tech giant urges users to be wise.

Misuse of AirTags and other monitoring devices has been an issue in recent months, with incidents of ex-lovers chasing each other and even thieves installing devices in fancy automobiles. It is worth highlighting this issue since it is becoming a more common criminal activity, we think it’s a good idea to warn you that if you come across a rogue AirTag, you should spin the rear of it counter-clockwise to remove the battery and disable it. You may also use an Android app to track neighboring AirTags and disable them if necessary.
