Apple has released iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2, which include upgrades to Find My and AirTags, as well as new legacy contacts and privacy capabilities, as well as Apple Music Voice.

The iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 editions are now available worldwide, following numerous beta releases. Users can either wait for an update notification or check Software Update in the Settings app. The 15.2 updates are mostly refinements and bug corrections, while there are some important enhancements, befitting their point-update numbers.

New Updates

Changes to the Find My app, which now includes an extra option to alleviate concerns about stalking using AirTags, are among the improvements. A new feature called “Items That Can Track Me” indicates whether there are any nearby gadgets that can be used to track a user.

Apple has also used this occasion to offer a feature called Child Safety in Messages. This was previously introduced as part of a “muddled” set of kid safety precautions. Messages on a child’s account are now blocked from potentially distressing photos in this latest edition. Receiving such a message used to send a notification to the child’s parents or legal guardians, but that was deleted in previous versions of the notion shown in beta releases.

A completely new Legacy Contact feature has been created. Users can now designate someone to have complete access to their Apple ID account in the case of their death. The nominee can share SMS and other relevant features from the device. Apple Music Voice is now supported as well. This is a new, lower-cost Apple Music tier that allows customers to access the music catalog using Siri, as announced in October.

Finally, iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 provide an improved App Privacy Report, which is the last of the major enhancements. In addition to existing safeguards like Private Relay, the new App Privacy Report will show which of a user’s apps have accessed the microphone or camera.
