Apple has postponed the release of iPhone driver’s licenses until next year

Apple has postponed the release of a feature that allows iPhone users to retain their driver’s licence or other forms of identity on their phones. According to Apple’s website for iOS 15, the option to add ID cards to the iPhone’s Wallet app will be available in early 2022.

Further Details

When the feature was first announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this year, the company said it would be available later this year. MacRumors was the first to report on the change.

Apple announced the first eight states that would implement the Wallet ID function in September. The option will first be available in Arizona and Georgia, according to Apple. Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah are next.

One of the numerous anticipated additions for the Wallet app on iPhones is the ability to upload a driver’s licence or state ID. Apple announced earlier this year that it would be adding functionality to Wallet that would allow it to store/share data such as digital house keys, automobile keys, and badges to get access to facilities.

According to Apple, the major use for carrying your state ID on your phone is for travelling and showing it at airport security checks. The Transportation Security Administration will allow ID in Wallet to be used at security checkpoints and lanes, as well as participating airports, according to the business.
