Apple is a versatile company hence caters to various tech needs such as smartphones, iPads, and Macs. The company recently released the Apple Watch Series 7 which is available in two new sizes: 41mm and 45mm, and it features the largest display of any Apple Watch to date, a design challenge Apple executives described as “unique”.

Apple Watch Series 7

According to Apple’s vice president of product marketing, Stan Ng, “totally re-engineering the display, the front crystal, the internals, and the internal enclosure” was required to implement the new design without large casing size increases.

The Series 7’s borders have been reduced to 1.7mm, down from 3mm on the Series 6, and it’s a notable difference. After a September announcement, the Apple Watch Series 7 was delayed until October, rumour has it that this was owing to the sophisticated design necessary by the upgraded display.

Apple only adopted the size increase because it was the only option to do so without sacrificing other Apple Watch functions. The touch sensor was included in the OLED panel, which allowed the Apple Watch to maintain its height and overall case size. Additionally, Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of interface design, stated that the update’s purpose was to “make the user experience more straightforward and approachable.” Apple had to make hundreds of modest UI modifications as a result of the size increase.

According to Dye, text input on the Apple Watch has always been “a major difficulty,” so the QWERTY keyboard that was integrated with the larger display was a triumph. Apple has always coveted a QWERTY keyboard, according to Dye. To make the keyboard feel less cramped, the bezels around the keys were removed, which also communicates to users that “precision isn’t necessary” because the keyboard employs machine learning to correct what you want to type.

Wrapping Up

Apple intends to keep improving the Apple Watch user experience, the information provided and reducing wasted space in the future. We hope that Apple diversifies the apps that can be downloaded and adds more utility apps such as duplicate photos remover. We can’t wait and see what the company has in store with the next Apple Watch Variants.
